Drama is very much part of the mainstream work of the English department. However, in Years 3 - 8, it is also taught as a discrete subject in its own right. The lessons are delivered by specialist drama coaches from Riding Lights Theatre Company who also run the Minster School Youth Theatre Company, as part of our extra-curricular activities programme.
Classes receive one lesson per week and, during this time, the emphasis is on developing confidence through a variety of techniques: improvised role-play, paired and small group work as well as more structured dramatic content. Each term, classes will perform or share their work with other groups and parents, for example at whole school assemblies or in short performances. The objective is to develop their creative thought processes as well as stagecraft and to encourage an enjoyment in expressing themselves through drama in the hope that they will have the confidence to take up drama in a more formal way.
