Art is very much an integral part of classroom learning in the Pre-Prep. In the Prep department, art continues to be an important component of many subjects but is also taught as a discrete subject in tandem with Design Technology. Classes divide into half sets for these subjects and pupils benefit from the even more focused attention that staff can give to each individual's artistic development.
In exposing pupils to a wide range of media and techniques, teaching staff seek to develop creative imagination through a combination of directed study and experimentation.
Topics are often introduced through the work of great artists and pupils are encouraged to develop their sense of critical awareness and to express their own ideas, feelings, thoughts and experiences through the creative process.
The school has an enviable record of success with pupils gaining art scholarships to a wide range of senior schools. However, every pupil is encouraged to explore a wide range of media and to develop their design capabilities and powers of artistic expression.
