Year 2 occupies the top floor of the Red House, which includes a common room and Art room in addition to their own classroom.
Whilst most subjects are taught by the class teacher, supported by a teaching assistant, more specialist subjects, such as French and Music, are taught by subject teachers from the prep department.
Through cross- curricular links between 'subjects' we seek to bring more meaning to the children’s learning. Due to our central location, we enjoy the use of many local museums and attractions. Examples of trips include the National Railway Museum,Yorkshire Museum,Thackray Medical Museum and the Sealife Centre in Scarborough.
There is an emphasis on the acquisition and consolidation of skills through a creative curriculum. We seek to foster independent learning and to ensure that pupils are well-prepared for the move over to the Prep department at the start of Year 3.
Pupils who show an interest and aptitude may begin to have instrumental lessons. During the spring term, choral auditions are held for those who may wish to become choristers in one of the Minster's choirs. These auditions are also open to external candidates.
