The Pre-Prep department is housed in the Red House, a fine Georgian building overlooking the great east window of the Cathedral. The department is run by highly qualified and experienced staff. The four teachers and their teaching assistants work together with a common sense of purpose to promote high expectations of achievement. Each child is valued as an individual and for their own contribution to the life of the school.
We aim to work in partnership with parents to achieve the best for each child. Parents are welcomed into school and are encouraged to become involved both in the education of their children and in the social life of the school.
The classrooms are organised to allow the children to learn through exploration and discovery. The children have access to computers, space for rest and play, the Music Room, Junior Library, the Junior Computer Room and a well equipped kitchen. Class sizes are small and our child/ adult ratios are excellent.
To the rear of the building is a walled, safe outdoor area. There is an all-weather playground, a soft surface and climbing frame, together with a garden with a lawn and flower beds, providing opportunities for adventure play, gardening and investigations.
Although the Red House is entirely separate from the Prep department, close links are maintained with the older children, their teachers and the Headmaster. The Pre-Prep children regularly use the main school facilities, including the School Hall, Library and, outside, the adventure playground and large grassed area.
