Mathematics

The Mathematics Department aims to give all pupils confidence in the use of mathematics, problem solving skills, and the ability to think clearly and logically. We are committed to assisting the pupils in achieving their potential and our general aim in the Department is to make the study of maths interesting, challenging and rewarding. Work is often practical, hands on tasks using concrete materials, puzzles and games.

In junior classes the focus is on consolidation of number bond and tables skills with problem solving applications. In Years 7 and 8 pupils are streamed on ability for one lesson per week to allow for consolidation of skills or specific scholarship exam preparation. In all lessons differentiation, child-centered learning and a calm yet challenging atmosphere aim to address the needs of all pupils at their individual ability levels and allow them to reach their full potential.
